HASK Coconut Milk and Organic Honey Curl Care Collection Review

Affordability. Quality. Performance. Results. Natural. This is what we - the consumers - look for when investing money in beauty products. Shampoos and conditioners are staple products in our beauty regiments. Let’s be honest – they are simply not sexy like a coconut sea salt spray to get those exotic beach waves or a new shade of a hot-orange lipstick or bakery scented body butter. I mean I would rather buy a new lipstick than the basic amenities, right! However, we just cannot skip out on the shampoo and conditioner dynamic-duo because after all it is a matter of personal hygiene at the very least if not a “me-time” pampering sort of moment in the shower involving a soothing scalp massage.

What I am actually trying to say is that hair care is important. I think a good hair day plays a role in seizing the day! We feel confident and put together when our hair looks healthy and well maintained. Our hair frames our face and our face is what people look at (or should be looking at) during a conversation. It is no fun to spend $15-30 on a bottle of shampoo and/or conditioner and that too multiple times a year.

My favorite affordable drugstore hair care brand is HASK. I was introduced to HASK a little over a year ago when I was accepted to review their Bamboo line. In fact, my husband is a loyal HASK user as well! He and I have purchased and tried the Monoi Coconut Oil, Argan Oil, and Keratin Protein lines over the past year.  I have also introduced HASK to a few of my close friends when they asked me for a recommendation of a “healthy, natural, and affordable shampoo brand that actually works.” Now they are all HASK fans and have thanked me for inspiring them to wear their hair naturally (i.e., not heat-styled or loaded with styling products) and feel confident about doing so.

Recently, I was given the opportunity to try one of the latest HASK lines – Coconut Milk & Organic Honey Curl Care.  Doesn’t that sound delicious, especially as we are amidst the summer season? It literally sounds like a summery beach-time cocktail, but for our hair.  If you are a fan of the virgin coconut oil scent, you are going to love this line.  The coconut scent of this line is even more dominantly coconut than the scent of the Monoi Coconut Oil line.

I am glad that I was already using the HASK Coconut Monoi Oil shampoo and conditioner (purchased myself from Bed, Bath, & Beyond Harmon’s) before I was sent the HASK Coconut Milk and Organic Honey shampoo and conditioner for review purposes because I think I am able to give a more informed review to those of you contemplating which one of the two Coconut varieties to purchase.

The consistency of the HASK Coconut Milk and Organic Honey shampoo and conditioner is thicker than the HASK Coconut Monoi Oil shampoo and conditioner.  However, once you massage the Coconut Monoi Oil shampoo into your hair, it lathers into a heavier, more emollient and creamier consistency than the Coconut Milk and Organic Honey shampoo.  I also noticed that I felt the need to use more of the Coconut Milk and Organic Honey conditioner than the Coconut Monoi Oil conditioner because the latter is more emollient and only two-quarter size squirts of it is needed for my long (below-waist length) hair.

My hair is naturally curly, voluminous, and frizzy.  I have dealt with frizzy hair since I grew out my hair (from a no-fuss boy-cut) during my pre-teen, early adolescent years. I rarely heat-style my hair and have never used bleach or lightener on it so it is just naturally frizzy and constantly in major need of conditioning.  I love having long hair and don’t want to compromise on the length of it because of the frizz.  About five or six years ago, I started getting keratin conditioning treatments annually, which helped eliminate the unmanageable volume and frizz, and gave my hair a smoother, wavy look, and allowed me to keep my hair long.  However, keratin conditioning treatments alone are not enough and I would not recommend getting them too often… only as needed because one, you don’t want your hair to become desensitized to the treatment (as with over-doing anything) and two, it is quite an investment monetarily.  Even though my stylist recommends using the shampoo and conditioner that comes in the Keratin treatment product line, I don’t because it is very expensive for the quantity you get and I prefer my affordable, sulfate-free HASK shampoo and conditioners instead. Yes, indeed the HASK line not only helps maintain the Keratin treatment by not stripping it, but also adds to the conditioning my hair needs.

Personally, I find that the HASK Coconut Monoi Oil shampoo and conditioner is better suited for people with long, thick, voluminous, coarse, dry, and frizzy hair, while the Coconut Milk and Organic Honey shampoo and conditioner is better suited for people with short to medium length, fine, thin, brittle, and frizzy hair.  Both lines of shampoo and conditioner provide the needed moisture and hydration to combat the frizz and get a smoother, shinier look to your hair.  For some people the effect of the Coconut Milk and Organic Honey might not be enough and for others the effect of Coconut Monoi Oil might be too much so deciding which one you think you might need, I will leave that up to you.  As for the Coconut Milk and Organic Honey line’s curl care claim, I did not observe anything noticeable when comparing it to the performance of the Coconut Monoi Oil line or any of the other HASK lines I have tried previously (Bamboo, Argan, and Keratin).

HASK products are available at Ulta (in-store and online), Target (in-store and online), and at select Bed, Bath, & Beyond (Harmon’s) stores.

Sonia Kashuk Holiday Limited Edition 2013 "Red Lip Matte"

Hey Y'all!!!

Looking for a matte red lip color for the Holidays?

I want to begin this post by professing my love for Target. My study breaks sometimes involve spontaneous and unnecessary visits to Target. I think I intentionally only buy a few items during one trip, so I have a reason to make another trip. During one of these random escapades, I picked up a new lipstick. Sonia Kashuk's "Red Lip Matte" is part of the brands Holiday Limited Edition Collection.

Packaging
At first sight, I was pleased with the cream and gold packaging. Perhaps because wedding bells are in the near future, this packaging reminds me of traditional Indian bridal attire - cream, gold, and red. However, the more I observed the packaging, the less I liked it. It looks a bit antique. When I look at the pictures below, I get a very retro vibe. Don't you?

Price
$12

Color
This lipstick is richly (multiplied by infinity) pigmented. A true red for medium to deep skin-tones and a deeper red on women with light to medium skin-tones. I don't believe this is a yellow, orange, or blue-toned red. It is quite neutral. A pure red with a slight pink undertone. This does not look like a rich blood red on me as you can see in the picture below, but it might on a lighter skinned person.

Formula / Application
Oxymoron, alert! Although a comfortable and emollient matte, this is a very messy shade. It gets everywhere - teeth, hands, clothes, its packaging, etc. It felt so smooth on my lips and appeared matte without absorbing the natural moisture on my lips. However, this lipstick is only meant for someone who wears lipstick regularly, lines their lips, touches up the application, and loves wearing red.

I am loving the classy red lipstick that is trending right now and have collected quite a few red lip colors, but I believe my love is more fickle, momentary, infatuation than truly loyal affection for red lip colors. So, I would only recommend this lipstick to those loyal fans. For others, I would suggest Revlon's Colorburst Matte Lip Balm in Standout as an alternative for the upcoming Holiday festivities.

Fashion Look Book # 1: What's trending in my closet? (#OOTDs)

What are my current favorite trends? See below! How to style, mix 'n' match? Where to buy? See below!

My favorite fashion items are definitely slouchy printed super soft sweaters, sheer loosely fit button down blouses, dark washed skinny jeans, military light-weight jackets, gold accessories, and nude and/or cognac handbags and footwear. Lately, some of my favorite fashion colors are cobalt blue, mint, military green, black 'n' white, orange-red, and fuchsia.

Check out Express for their new selection of solid as well as printed sheer button-down blouses and soft and cozy printed sweaters. Francesca's and Target have an amazing selection of jewelry as I have displayed in my jewelry and accessories haul(s) before. Francesca's has a boutique style fashion collection at affordable prices. I don't need jewel-mint, stella 'n' dot, j.crew, or any other online subscriptions. I can see and select items in person. The quality is nowhere near the cheap quality of Forever 21 accessories.

Although I don't wear dresses too often, I always find affordable and beautiful dresses at Belk, suitable for both cooler and warmer weather. The Celebrity Jeans brand, available at Dillard's and select Macy's and Belk, is an affordable brand for quality jeans. This brand offers a broad selection of colors and the material of the jeans is tremendously comfortable, flexible, and feels gentle on your legs.

Summer to Fall Jewelry Haul (Francesca's, Light Years, Charming Charlie, Ross, Kohl's, Target, TJ MAXX, Macy's, Dillard's, Hand Picked, and Genealogy)

Brands such as Kate Spade, J. Crew, Henri Bendel, Stella and Dot are known in the fashion world for releasing hot designs, spreading like wildfire - "bubble" necklace, "bib" necklace, etc. Obviously, I would love to own such designer jewelry, but the prices seem slightly unreasonable for costume jewelry. I believe I have found some great alternative brands and boutiques that offer trendy and quality jewelry items within a reasonably affordable price range. If you are a fan of designer costume jewelry, I would recommend taking a look at the jewelry and accessories sold at boutiques such as Francesca's, Light Years, Hand Picked, and Genealogy. At times I find a nice selection of items at Charming Charlie's. However, I think Charming Charlie would be an option for someone who likes Forever 21 and Charlotte Russe jewelry, yet desires better quality and wider color-oriented selection. TJ Maxx and Ross carry original designer brands at very affordable, nearly clearance level prices, but their stock varies so I either find unique treasures or waste my time. Macy's and Dillard's are my least favorite places because the selection is sometimes too mature for my age and prices are too steep for my liking. Macy's and Dillard's rarely have sales. Last, but not the least, and my favorite two places are Target and Kohl's. Kohl's always has sales and additional coupons.

During the last few months, I have purchased quite a few beautiful pieces of jewelry. I wanted to share these colorful discoveries with you all and provide a preview of the items and deals that are currently available at these stores.

I am definitely not a fashion expert on the current trends by any means whatsoever, but I have had a passion for "dressing up" and "looking fancy" since I was a little tyke. My mom says that she would dress me up in several different outfits throughout the day. My mom has so many pictures of me posing in at random outdoor places, in front of rusty orange and crimson trees in the Autumn or blooming gardens in the Spring. I loved wearing gold jewelry at a very young age, middle to high-school, back when only "aunties" used to rock the gold bling bling. Not everyone will understand that! I was stacking bangles and bracelets, showing off my arm candy in 6th grade, while the "cool girl" Ms. Snooty Bottoms next to me worn her little hair tie on the wrist.

Although I find many fashion trends enticing, I feel like I have always been a little late in the game. Also, I like an array of style and like to add a unique twist of my own. I cannot seem to categorize my sense of style because I like it all - the grudge look of flannel and plaid, the retro chic motorcycle jackets, the classy military jackets, shape flattering peplum, dark wash skinnies, sexy sheer button downs, high-waisted pencil skirts, pearls, hoops, gold, mixed metals, Audrey Hepburn sunglasses, etc.

All of the jewelry items below are my current favorites. I have been wearing these pieces for the past few months. I adore the bright pop of color and glamour these add to my rather semi-casual outfits. Some day, one day, in the future, I would love to own the original Audrey Hepburn Ray-bans and a Louis Vuitton handbag.

Keep an eye out for sales at these stores. Francesca's occasionally has a BOGO (buy one, get one 50%) sale. Target recently had 20% off earrings and 10% off necklaces. Other than the typical 10-20% off, Target sometimes has a buy three for "x" price deal on its jewelry. Kohl's always sends out coupons and marks down its jewelry by 40-60% off retail price. I have never bought anything full price at Kohl's.

I hope you all liked the jewelry collection displayed above. Thank you for stopping by, until next time!
