Makeup Haul and Mini Reviews: Tom Ford, NARS, CHANEL, Girlactik, Inglot, Gerard Cosmetics, and Laneige (YouTube)

Hello, Everyone!

It has been a while since I posted a review here on my blog.  I assure you that it was all in good faith and by no means am I abandoning my blog-baby.  I was a bit preoccupied with some "life" stuff, like academics, moving, planning my wedding, etc.

Today, I would like to inform my readers of my new YouTube channel.  My channel's name is Chai Time with Meesha (searched as "ChaiTimewithMeesha" on YouTube).  I chose this name because I believe it personifies me well.  Since childhood, I have been and still am a caffeine addict! Give me that Masala Chai or give me that Cappuccino or give me that Cola with ice.  My granny and mother had to force feed me milk because it just did not cut it for me.  My favorite pass-time with friends is to meet up at Starbucks, get Tea of Coffee, and then browse makeup counters.  So, through my channel I hope to create new friendships with other beauty v-loggers in the beauty community, learn and develop makeup artistry skills, and make an interactive connection with my audience as we share a common fondness for beauty.

Although I love writing, especially about beauty products, I realize that some of my audience would like or prefer a more interactive visual of the products than simply reading about them and referring to still pictures.

I uploaded my first video yesterday.  I have attached it here below. I hope all of you will take a peek at it! If you enjoyed the video, please like and subscribe for more upcoming videos!

Lipstick Queen Sinner Lipstick Natural

Many actresses, whether in real-life or in the world of drama, wear a trademark lip color that we associate them with.  Taylor Swift is known for wearing a creamy, bright, fire engine red lipstick.  Jennifer Lopez is known for wearing a glossy, warm-toned, golden-beige lip color.  Drew Barrymore is known for the wine-red tinted lips.  Victoria Grayson and her daughter Charlotte from Revenge as well as Gloria Delgado from the Modern Family always have on a bold burgundy or deep wine-red lip color.  Where am I going with this? We all watch television and drool over celebrity fashion trends, but that is not my point here.

I think to myself as I reflect upon my unreasonably extensive lipstick collection, do I have a signature lip color? I have reviewed a few lipsticks in the past, which I have deemed as the one and only lip color that I could survive with for the rest of my life.  Disclaimer - if you are not that passionate about makeup and wearing makeup is just something like brushing your teeth, then you will find this post overly dramatic.  I must admit that I am not very loyal to any single lip color I own.

Obviously I am not a celebrity or actress, so I feel that my signature lip color cannot be a bright red or a bold burgundy.  I have also struggled to find my ideal n*de lipstick.  Because of my olive-beige skin-tone and more pigmented lips, n*de lip colors look patchy, streaky, and dry on me.  So I have to settle for the "my lips but better" shades that fall in the mix of pink-brown-rosy-mauve family or currently better known as the "Kylie lip" or "90s lip."

I am making my point! Be patient! Last week ULTA (e)mailed out a 20% off (no exclusions) coupon. I rarely, unless there is a special occasion, purchase high-end (or even drug-store) makeup without a promotion or coupon or sale or bargain.  High-end makeup is rarely discounted.  Rarely!  Gifts with purchase deals don't really entice me because the quality of the "gifts" is not always up to par as the makeup you are buying.  However,  I do appreciate samples or deluxe samples of permanent products because as a blogger, I am always curious to try new products.  Anyway,  I had a fixed list of what I wanted to purchase with my coupon.  Fortunately for the funds, it was a modest one too.  The last time I received a coupon from ULTA was back in April (these coupons circulate every late fall, mid-spring).  Since then I refrained from buying anything high-end in anticipation for the next coupon and instead maintained a shopping-list here on my blog.

Lipstick Queen was not on my list, but I am attracted to the brand for some unknown reason.  I think it is the name because I have ordained myself a lipstick queen.  In addition to the lipstick, which I am reviewing at present, I only own one other lipstick from Lipstick Queen called Jungle Queen.  Although I always glance at this brand in ULTA, none of the lip products with the exception of Jungle Queen has impressed me.  By chance I decided to try the shade Natural from the Sinner collection of Lipstick Queen lip products.  I presumed I would not like this color, but I decided to try it anyway.

I fell in love with this shade the moment I tried it.  It was a "I have to have you" shade.  I admired it on myself, bordering narcissism. Why do I love this particular lipstick so much?  First, I had presumed it would be a boring, mid-tone pink-rose shade.  Secondly, these sort of "my lips but better" shades just seem to get lost on my face as if I just have a lip balm on.  Lastly, I had heard that the Sinner collection of lipsticks can be drying and I like to stay far far far away from dry formulas.  However, this lipstick proved me wrong.

This lipstick is not hydrating, but it is not drying either.  When my lips are dry to begin with and  I apply this lipstick without getting rid of the chapped dead skin, I can see the flakiness, but only if I look very closely.  I think because this shade is deep and opaque it does not appear dry despite the satin-matte formula.

The main reason I am so fond of Lipstick Queen Sinner Natural is that it wears true to the color of the bullet.  You get what you see with this one.  Most rosy-brown shades show up much lighter on my skin-tone than they do on women fairer than me.  It seems natural to desire what we do not have and  take for granted what we do have. Women with fairer skin-tones tan, while women who are tan protect themselves from the sun with umbrellas and complexion-lightening creams.  My point is I am a fan of a deep rosy red lip, which looks very natural.  This shade reminds of a lip color I associate with women from the medieval era or homely milk-maids.  I told my fiancĂ© that this is the type of color I could wear if I were acting in the Game of Thrones.  As you can tell from my elaborate explanation, this shade was a special find.  So, what was my point ultimately?  Well, I feel like this shade could possibly be my signature shade.  This shade is exactly the kind of red shade that I can wear to the courtroom... don't you think so?

I am saving the best news till the end.  During this particular trip to ULTA I made a new sweet friend!  I love making friends out of the blue, when I am least expecting it.  Obviously we all fall into social circumstances in the classroom or the office, but to make a friend in an unexpected way is truly memorable.  I am a very shy person, but when I feel a connection with someone, the shyness disappears.  My new friend is a makeup artist and what makeup-loving blogger would not be more than happy to find another makeup-loving confidant.  She happened to be working at ULTA the day I decided to go there.  It is one of my current points of positivity and just thought I should share.  Sometimes in this mechanical material world we must take a moment to cherish random occurrences that we so often take for granted - like making a new friend.  If the Omnipotent Being sends along a person who puts a smile on your face, while allowing you to be in your element, and does not make you feel obliged is worth that which words cannot justify.  I always make it a point to express to my close friends how much they mean to me.  Give your friend a call!

NARS Audacious Lipstick Collection (Jane, Dominique, Anita, Vanessa, Anna, Geraldine, Olivia, Leslie, Deborah, Sylvia, Barbara, Catherine, and Lana) | Video | Swatches | Demo | Review

*Visual Demo on "ChaiTimewithMeesha"*

*Review*
My friend Megan gifted me the NARS Audacious lipstick in the shade Jane.  A few weeks back she and I were having lunch together at Bravo on a rainy afternoon and she asked me, "if you could have any lipstick today at this moment which one would it be?" I responded, without giving it a second thought, "NARS Audacious Jane." After lunch we walked into the mall to do some window-shopping and a return at Sephora.  Later on as we drove home, I asked her why she was asking me about lipsticks that I want as if she had a trick up her sleeve.  I reminded her not to buy anything from Sephora until the VIB sale.  She, being my twin, could no longer contain the surprise and told me that she bought the lipstick for me as a just-because gift.  In that moment I was fighting back tears of happiness.  I felt so overwhelmed and had no words to express how special her gesture made me feel.  I am no social butterfly and sometimes I feel really sad about being far from my few close friends, but I sure am lucky to have such a special place in their hearts.  Megan's gift was extremely thoughtful, genuine, self-less, and generous.

When I first saw pictures of the new NARS Audacious lipsticks collection on the Temptalia blog, the only shade in the collection that drew my attention was Jane.  Although Jane may look like a very subdued or rather boring shade when considering the color depicted by the bullet, once applied it comes off bright.  By "bright" I do not mean to imply neon bright, but more vibrant, not dulled down by a heavy brown base.  I have heard other beauty bloggers, with a lighter skin-tone than mine, describe Jane as a terra-cotta shade, but I would not describe it as that.  In my opinion, Jane is a muted coral-orange with a extremely light wash of a warm rosy-brown base.  It is not at all deep or muddy or yellowish or rusty like terra-cotta.  If you are an admirer of the current orange lip color trend, but desire something less loud and clown-like and work-appropriate, then Jane is the shade for you.  This may sound very silly, but Jane from Drop Dead Diva needs to discover this shade.  I imagine it would be one she would like to rock, especially because it has her name.  Ah, wouldn't it be cool if one of the NARS Audacious lipsticks had your name as its name?  Then who needs a souvenir keychain or magnet with your name on it when you can get a lipstick!  Well, maybe some gentlemen would not appreciate this gesture.

Once I began seeing / reading several positive reviews of the NARS Audacious lipsticks, I added a few more shades to my wish-list, such as Barbara (brown-nude), Anita (rosy-pink nude), Vanessa (mauve-pink nude), Catherine (tangerine), Geraldine (orange), Charlotte (wine-red), and Deborah (reddish brown).  I am patiently awaiting the Sephora VIB sale in November to purchase the other shades.

The NARS Audacious lipsticks cost $32 each, which comes close to the price point of brands like Chanel, Dior, and YSL.  This price point is quite a bit higher than its other lip products, which cost about $25 per lip product.  The high price point comes as a surprise to consumers, who I suppose associate NARS as more of a mid-range high-end brand.  However, after trying a NARS Audacious lipstick myself and liking it more than any of the Chanel, Dior, and YSL lipsticks I own as well as observing that the quality of the NARS Audacious lipsticks far exceeds that of its older permanent lip product lines.

The NARS Audacious lipsticks are available everywhere NARS is sold, like Sephora and Nordstrom.  There are a few shades (Dominique (dusty lilac), Vanessa (mauve-pink nude), Carmen (red) to name a few... ) that are exclusive to Barney's New York and NARS (stand-alone) stores.  I purchased Dominique last week, but am planning to return it because sadly this shade did not suit me at all.

I say every lipstick wearer needs at least one NARS Audacious lipstick. Yes, needs! So, why does one need a NARS Audacious lipstick? This is the only lipstick amongst the lipsticks I own that I can assure you with extreme confidence that it is indeed a long-wearing lipstick, which is not a staining lipstick and will not kill the hydration in your lips.  This lipstick stayed on my lips through two solid meals and brushing my teeth before going to sleep at night.  In addition to its exceptional staying power, the pigmentation and formula are excellent as well.  There are no compromises here!  You are not compromising opaque color or staying power for a comfortable formula.  The NARS Audacious lipsticks provide it all.  The formula is the perfect amount of creamy and not overly emollient, making the application smooth, yet not slippery.  One does not need to apply more than a single swipe for full color impact.

Overall, I am so pleased by the quality NARS Audacious lipsticks.  Their new and superb formula has influenced the quality I desire from lip products, making me even more of a lipstick snob than I already am.  NARS Audacious lipsticks are feel creamy during and after application applied, yet set to a comfortable semi-matte finish.  Lastly, these lipsticks provide rich pigmentation and excellent staying-power without actually staining your lips.  So, the product comes off easily without requiring you to scrub your lips harshly.

I highly recommend Jane as this shade would flatter so many skin tones.  Dominique on the other hand is an acquired taste.  Thus far no one amongst my confidants, mom, Mr. Beau, and one of my close friends (Alexandria - you know I'm talking about you), has liked the appearance of Dominique on me.  Of course I did not want to experiment with it too much because sadly at first glance I decided to send it back.  I have heard that Anna is a wearable version of Dominique, so I plan to purchase that shade in the future.  Update: I have decided to keep Dominique.  Something about it has drawn me from the beginning and I ultimately decided to keep it because it is a truly unique shade to my collection. Yes, that is how amazing these lipsticks are!  Thanks to Megan for the vote of confidence to rock this shade.

MAC The Matte Lip Collection (2014)

MAC Cosmetics released The Matte Lip Collection today, October 9th, in stores.  MAC collections are usually available for sale online a few days before the collections are sold in stores.  I wanted to share my thoughts on this collection as soon as I could because MAC limited-edition collections do tend to sell out within the first few hours of their release.  I  am truly impressed by this collection and given that this collection will be available for a limited period of time, I want to convey to my readers  my eagerness for them to try at least one item from this collection for themselves.

The Matte Lip Collection includes eight matte finish lipsticks, three blushes, and six lip pencils.  I selected five of the eight lipsticks, all of which I recommend, and one of the blushes.  Don't the products look delicious in the pictures below?  At first, I could not bring myself to swatch the items because they looked so fresh, clean, beautiful, and colorful.

Initially, I had only planned to purchase Styled in Sepia, Pander Me, and Make You Mine, which is what happened during my first trip to Macy's in the morning.  However, I returned a few hours later and purchased Damn Glamorous, La Vie En Rouge, and Nouvelle Vogue.

The lipsticks applied smoothly and did not feel dry like some of the permanent MAC matte lipstick formula and of course not at all like the "retro-matte" lipsticks, which were released last year.  The magical feature of these lipsticks is that they appear matte without looking dry.  I find that such an effect is very difficult to achieve with most matte lip products.

Styled in Sepia is a conversation piece.  I am in love with it.  Of course my Mr. Beau dislikes it very much.  He thinks it makes me look depressed.  I beg to differ.  It is bold, but I feel I am comfortable to carry it on with confidence.  Although Styled in Sepia might seem very unique to western consumers, it is a commonly worn shade by Southeast Asian and Indian women.  As I have mentioned before, the lipsticks that fit into the brown category have been popular in the Indian market ever since I can remember.  Styled in Sepia looks like an intimidating, perhaps even hideous, shade, but I highly recommend you try it out.  You may surprise yourself.  It is perfect for the Fall / Autumn season.  If you can only purchase one item from this collection, then I highly recommend this particular shade.

Damn Glamorous and La Vie En Rouge are similar so you might not want to invest in both.  So perhaps purchasing both was a bit excessive.  Well, my Mr. Beau seems to think so.  He was unable to tell the difference between these two shades.  I believe the formula really swayed me. Both are cool-toned, blue-toned reds.  Damn Glamorous has a magenta base, while La Vie En Rouge has a coral-pink base.  Need a fun bright red for Christmas?  I recommend one of these two.  If you are currently liking the neon trend, then opt for La Vie En Rouge.  Damn Glamorous is a tad bit deeper, more for the raspberry or berry lip color fans.  Pander Me is a peachy light brown shade; an ideal nude for deeper skin tones like mine.  Nouvelle Vogue is a cool-toned or blue-toned medium pink.  Some describe it as a deep mauve-pink, but on me it appears quite bright as you can see in the picture below.

In the pictures below I have worn each one of the lipsticks paired with the Make You Mine blush.

Other items, apparel, and accessories that are shown in the photographs were purchased at the following stores:
Eyeliner - MAC Fluidline Gel Liner in Blacktrack
Sweaters - SO and Vera Wang Princess @ Kohl's
Earrings - Sterling Silver Tiffany-Ball Studs @ Kohl's, Antique Gold Crystal @ J. Crew

Bobbi Brown 'Smokey Nudes' Creamy Matte Lip Colors: Soft Nude and Nude

A few months ago, I noticed a new collection by Bobbi Brown of four new creamy matte lip colors called the 'Smokey Nudes' collection on Nordstrom's website.  I am not sure whether this collection is a Summer or Fall limited edition release.  Also, I am not sure if this collection is limited edition or a permanent addition.  I saw this collection posted up on Nordstrom about two months back and I do check the website periodically to look for new lip color releases.

I have always been drawn to the Bobbi Brown brand.  I believe I like the packaging and shade range.  Obviously, I will not purchase a product solely because its packaging is appealing to me.  However, despite several dissatisfying past experience, I was still eager to try this new collection.  This collection caught my attention specifically because it consisted of neutral, yet deep shades, which I presumed would suit women of color like myself.  I cannot wear a majority of the popular nude or pinky-nude lip colors in the market because of my more pigmented lips and deeper skin-tone.  The majority of beauty bloggers I follow are fair-skinned and can wear the popular, cult-favorite shades.

Being a lip product "junkie" (dislike that word, but it seemed fitting here), I want to experiment with almost every shade out there.  I have come to terms with the fact that the nude lipsticks designed for fair skin-tones will not suit me.   However, I am still not satisfied with the availability of nude lip colors for women of color in the mainstream market.  What especially irks me is this new Kylie Jenner or 90s lip trend?  I have been wearing these sort of mauve-pink-brown shade since I began wearing lip colors five years ago.  Before the dawn of this trend, these sort of shades were considered the "grandma shades" or "mom shades" or boring or "work-appropriate."  Now because Kylie Jenner wore such a shade, she, unbeknownst to her, created a marketing scheme and cult-favorite.

The 'Smokey Nudes' collection consists of shades that are right on point with the Kylie Jenner or 90s lip trend.  I believe the 90s lip trend was brown lip colors, as in straight up chocolate brown, sometimes mixed with mauve or red undertones.  I cannot be too certain of the trend because I was just born then and a little tyke for most of that decade.  My aunt still rocks the 90s brown lipsticks. In fact, it still appears to be one of the go to lipstick shades for the women in India, especially with a bit of icy frost added to it.  Yuck, I hate frost or shimmer in my lipsticks.  I cannot even tolerate the most subtle hint of frost or shimmer.  Kylie Jenner has altered the 90s lip trend by wearing a gradient of light to deeper mauve-pink-brown shades.  Coincidentally, new lip product releases have reflected this resurrection of an old beauty trend (Bite Beauty Matte Creme Lip Crayon in Glace, Maybelline Color Sensational Creamy Matte Lip Color in Touch of Spice, NARS Audacious Lipsticks in Barbara, Anna, and Deborah --> just to name a few of these new cult-favorites).  As a side-note, these new NARS Audacious Lipsticks are next on my Wish List.  I have only heard reviews proclaiming the excellence of these lipsticks, so I cannot wait for the Sephora VIB sale in November to purchase quite a few of the NARS Audacious Lipsticks.

Well, let us get on with the review.  After hearing about the superior quality of the NARS Audacious Lipsticks, I almost feel like discouraging you from purchasing these Bobbi Brown lip colors, but that would be an unfair judgment on my part as I have not tried the NARS lipsticks myself.  I can advise you to test out both brands in the store, before making your investment in one over the other or compare my review of the Bobbi Brown lipsticks with someone else's review of the NARS lipsticks.

My first gripe with the Bobbi Brown Creamy Matte Lip Colors is that they are dry and need to be worn with a lip balm underneath.  They are not as uncomfortable as MAC's matte lipsticks, but they are not as comfortable as Bite Beauty's matte creme lip crayons either.  As demonstrated in one of the pictures below, each and every crevice or line in your lips will show.  The formula is not at all a creamy matte.  Rather, it is a true-matte, but not entirely unbearable like a stain, such as the Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lip Colors.  I cannot tolerate most matte lip products even with a lip balm worn underneath, but I was able to wear these Bobbi Brown shades without feeling complete discomfort.  My issue with the formula of these two lipsticks is not so much the feel, but the dry appearance.  Both lipsticks applied smoothly and when I pressed my lips together, the product felt smooth (not emollient, just smooth).  While applying, I felt no tugging or friction with the lips.  In a nutshell, I suppose I just do not like the true-matte look, especially with light or neutral shades.

Color-wise, I liked both the shades.  Of course I was expecting Soft Nude to look on my lips as it does on my hand - a brown with something mixed in.  Instead, it looks like a rosy pink-nude. Next, Nude is not very different from Soft Nude.  Only a beauty enthusiast would notice the difference, so it might not be necessary to get both.  I prefer Soft Nude over Nude.  According to my fiancĂ©, Nude looks like the chalkier version of Soft Nude.  By chalky he means that the shade has a gray or white cast to it, which I feel dulls my complexion and teeth color.  In my amateur makeup experience, I have observed that the gray or white undertone in lip colors seems to have a counter-brightening effect.  The names of the four shades in this collection is deceiving.  I only have two to show you.  For example, the swatches I have seen online demonstrate that warn nude (not reviewed here) is a lighter shade than soft nude (reviewed here).  I am still unsure whether I will be keeping or returning Nude.  Mr. Beau completely dislikes it and wants it to go back ASAP!

Bobbi Brown Creamy Matte Lip Colors cost $26 each.  I find this price point to be high for the quality of the product.  It is not an ideal product.  Again, I shall reference the wisdom of my Mr. Beau, who believes that I should not invest a lot of money in a product that I have to put in additional effort to make it work, such as a lip balm or gloss or another lipstick.  It is so underwhelming to talk about disappointing products even though my reviews of sub-par products seem to be lengthier than products I absolutely love.  Fortunately, I used a $40 Nordstrom note towards the purchase of these two lipsticks.  I cannot say that the note justifies buying sub-par expensive products though because Mr. Beau received the note after he purchased almost a year's worth of formal business clothes.  Sadly, you need to accumulate a lot of points from your purchases before you receive these notes.  Other than these notes and an occasional 10% off of select beauty products, Nordstrom does not have any special sales on beauty or give out any coupons that can be used on beauty products (like Sephora's VIB Sale or ULTA 20% off high-end products coupon).  Ebates (a website too good to be true and I am curious to learn about its business semantics) occasionally has 3%, 6%, or 10% cash-back on Nordstrom purchases.  All you have to do is start a virtual shopping trip to Nordstrom's website via the Ebates website and of course create your account.

MAC Matte Blush in Pink Cult

Until recently, I was blissfully unaware - well in regards to my unsuccessful attempts to spend frugally - of MAC's Matte and Satin finish blush / cheek powders; a recent and favorable new discovery for me.  Thus far I have acquired three matte shades, called Melba, Coppertone, and Mocha, and three satin shades, called Modern Mandarin and Fleur Power.  Last week my mother-bear bought two more shades, one matte and one satin, from the MAC flagship store in San Francisco.  She happened to pass by it on route from her hotel to the conference center where she was presenting her research - pretty cool.  She called me up and said, "I'm standing in front of the biggest MAC store ever... text me what you want or I'll get confused in there."

I cannot continue this post without adding a side note about my mother.  She only goes shopping when she needs something.  My father is very lucky to have a woman as simple materialistically as her.  She is not keen on visiting shopping malls or beauty stores, yet she took the time to call me as she stood in front of places like MAC and Sephora.  Not only was she with her co-workers, but she also was not feeling well.  My mother is my role model because she does it all and does more than anyone I know.  I hope that I can reflect her tact, simplicity, beauty, diligence, intellect, tolerance, and endurance.  A mother is one who balances the mood swings of everyone - family members, friends, and co-workers.  She is my air, water, and fire.  Mothers can always bring a smile to their babies' faces - be the baby five months or 25 years old.  And the most basic things bring mother's happiness, like seeing that smile on their child's face.

OK! Now I can continue with my review.  MAC Pink Cult is a cool-toned, dusty, milky, baby pink.  The only reason this shows up on my skin tone is because it is a good balance of dusty and milky.  Pink Cult appears to have a grayish undertone in the pan, but once applied on the cheek it is not a deep shade at all.  I was expecting it to give a pink-taupe bruised look.  In dim lighting or with flash, this looks like a pale pink highlight color on my skin tone.  Although this shade is nicely pigmented, I still have to apply two layers to achieve the look in the pictures below.  Color-wise, I have to apply Pink Cult carefully.  It did not pair well with an orange lip, but it looked nice with n*de lips.  Otherwise, for being a light color, the pigmentation is good.  The blush applies evenly and blends nicely.  I am not wearing any base face makeup, such as moisturizer or foundation, in the pictures below and yet the blush looked very natural, skin-like. The staying power of this particular shade is not as good as the other MAC matte and satin blushes I own.  I felt the need to touch up, meaning add a bit more, after about four hours.  However, the wear-time does not bother me much personally.  Of course women who wear primer or base makeup may find that the blush lasts for a longer time on them.  This blush may not suit skin-tones darker than mine.  On deeper skin-tones, this shade will most likely look like a high-light rather than a cheek-color.

Bite Beauty Matte Creme Lip Crayon (with Resveratrol): Glace, Peche, Sophie, Lola, and Eddie

Oh, Bite Beauty, words cannot justify the exceeding exceptional quality of your lip products! I am certain that this sentence - with an exclamation mark at end - sums up my feeling for this purely lip-products brand.  As I mentioned in my previous post, I first came across this brand five or so years ago while perusing a Sephora in Vancouver, British Columbia.  Although there are a few Bite Beauty lip products that I not liked, such as the Agave Lip Mask and Cashmere Lip Cream, overall I am fan. I have enjoyed wearing the Luminous Creme Lipsticks (review coming soon), Matte Creme Lip Crayons (Spring Limited Edition), and High Pigment Lip Pencils (more shades coming soon) in several shades.

Recently, Bite Beauty released two collections of the Matte Creme Lip Crayons.  The first collection is a collaboration with J. Crew, consisting of three shades (Sophie, Lola, and Edie), and once again this is a limited edition collection like the one released in the Spring.  The J. Crew Bite Beauty collection is J. Crew exclusive and only available on the J. Crew website.  I ordered all three at a store location, which allowed me to get free shipping.  The lip crayons were already marked down 25% (I believe) all beauty was 25% off) and then the sales person gave me an additional 20% off (I am not sure why) and 15% off student discount.  Ultimately, I paid about $11 per lip crayon (originally $24) and received the goodies within a few days (it took less than a week).

Next, Bite Beauty released a full permanent line of Matte Creme Lip Crayons ($24 each), which are available at Sephora now.  So far I have purchased the shades Glace and Peche.  As if these were not enough, I have Leche, Amaretto, Sucre, and Tatin on my wish-list for the Fall.  I am content with the bright beauties below at the moment.

I am not a fan of true matte or "retro matte" lip products.  Imagine Stila Stay All Day liquid lipsticks or MAC Matte lipsticks or Too Faced Melted Lipsticks (Uh, yeah!) or Kat Von D liquid lipsticks - I cannot handle these lip products that just absorb the moisture out of my lips and then make me look extremely dehydrated or like I recently recovered from frost-bite or pneumonia.  My lips are naturally very pouty and wrinkly (not in an aged way), so at times even lighter creamy shades can exaggerate my lip lines.  My point is that the Bite Beauty Matte Creme Lip Crayons are a god-send in terms of the formula, color pay-off, selection of colors, price-point, smell, taste, longevity, and so on and so forth.

If you are a "lip color wearer," but obviously not as "taken"(I will not use the word obsessed because it sounds negative and people these days use certain words quite loosely and out of context; I realize I am fond of lip products a little more than the next person, but it is my one and only "materialistic-love") with lip products as I am, then you must own at least one of these even if it will be the only one you have.

Anyways, let us carry on with the shades shall we! As you can tell from the pictures below, I could not resist trying out Glace and Peche.  Usually, I do not wear anything (beauty products) before taking pictures of it for its review.  So apologizes for the "used" appearance of these two shades.  However, the three J. Crew shades are pictured in untouched condition, so now you have an idea of how these look before use and gradually lose their pointed shape after use.

I was so eager to post the lip swatches that I decided not to wait to take lip swatches showing my full-face.  I was able to get a decent full-face snap wearing Peche, which I have posted at the end.  I realize that seeing one's full face with a lip color on gives a better idea of how the shade looks, what overall effect it gives, whether it is too bold, and whether or not it will suit you.  It is difficult to take nice full-face pictures though when you have a busy schedule and especially when you are old-school and only like an actual camera (not the phone camera).  If I take any pictures wearing the other four shades in the future, I will add them at the end of this post.

The formula is superb.  The lip crayons do not have a slip to them like creamy lipsticks, but feel smooth while applying and once applied.  The pointed smaller tip allows for precise application, like having both lip liner and lipstick as one product.  Some of the shades, like Lola, Edie, and Peche are not completely matte, but have a subtle sheen (extremely subtle glossy appearance). I don't feel like the sheen compromises the matte appearance because these definitely stay in place nicely and have a different feel to them than creamy lipsticks.  Bite Beauty has figured out a non-drying matte formula, which allows you to retain the moisture in your lips. Kudos!
Peche (see above) (And my infatuation with red-coral, red-orange, orange, poppy-coral continues... )

Peche is my favorite shade of all the ones I have shown you.  It is very unique, not only in my collection, but generally unlike any other coral shade I have seen before.  In my opinion it is a true coral and perfect for someone with my skin-tone.  I have observed that this shade looks deeper on girls with lighter skin than mine.  On me it appears deeper coral in dim light and looks like a muted, dark peach in sun-light.  Have you ever imagined an ideal shade in your mind and then you find it. Voila! Peche is that shade for me.
